In the city

Aberdeen's restaurant scene offers something for every appetite. Enjoy beautifully prepared seafood at Silver Darling, perched above the harbour entrance with views across the water to Footdee, or savour modern Scottish cooking at Café Bohème, where seasonal menus are built around local produce and a philosophy of slow food done well. Tarragon is one of the most highly regarded neighbourhood restaurants in the city, and Mara Wine Bar has quickly established itself as one of the most talked-about spots in Aberdeen with a natural wine list and a small plates menu rooted in local ingredients.

For Italian dining, Poldino's is a much-loved Aberdeen institution and Gio's by La Lombarda is a warm and welcoming option with a loyal following. Koi Thai brings refined Thai dining to the city centre. For an excellent Sunday roast, head to No.10, although its wider menu is well worth exploring too. With such a varied dining scene, you won’t be stuck for choice when it comes to finding a great restaurant in Aberdeen. Molly's Bistro, Gidi Grill, and Café Harmony all offer characterful and well-regarded dining across the city. The Chester Hotel on Queens Road and Cults Hotel in the western suburbs are both reliable options for a more formal meal.

In the countryside

The countryside is home to some of the finest dining in the North-east, where local produce, country house settings, and exceptional cooking come together.

Banchory Lodge on the banks of the River Dee offers a romantic and atmospheric dining experience rooted in Deeside produce, and Rothesay Rooms in Ballater is one of the most consistent and well-regarded restaurants on Royal Deeside. Milton Brasserie at Milton of Crathes is an AA Rosette awarded restaurant with a menu that makes the most of the exceptional larder on its doorstep.

Falls by Orry Shand is a new concept restaurant on the beautiful falls of Feugh, run by The Great British Menu finalist, Orry Shand. Morgan McVeighs is a great pit stop in Colpy with heart homecooked lunches and decadent deserts.

For something special, The Fife Arms in Braemar is one of the most celebrated hotel restaurants in Scotland, and Buchanan Food near Huntly is a well-regarded local favourite built around quality local produce.

The Aberdeenshire coast is one of the best places in Scotland to eat fresh seafood, with working harbours landing lobster, crab, and whitefish just miles from the restaurants that serve them.

The Captain's Table in Fraserburgh is a popular and well-regarded restaurant where the freshness of the local catch is the point. The Pennan Inn sits in one of the most dramatically situated villages on the Scottish coast. The Ship Inn and The Newburgh Inn are both welcoming and characterful options, and The Lobster Shop in Johnshaven n is a much-loved destination for simply cooked, fresh local seafood.
