About Rothesay Rooms
The Rothesay Rooms was established as a pop-up dining destination by HRH The Prince of Wales to support tourism and employment following flooding and fire in the village in 2015. It has since gained a strong reputation, earning several North-East Restaurant of the Year awards and inclusion in the Michelin Guide for the past four years.Award-winning Head Chef Ross Cochrane focuses on Scottish dishes executed with precision, embracing a field-to-fork cooking philosophy. The menu changes seasonally, showcasing the finest local produce available. The Rothesay Rooms recently relocated to the Old Royal Station in Ballater, originally built in 1866 to allow Queen Victoria and the royal family to travel by train to nearby Balmoral Castle. The station has enjoyed a rich and varied history over the years. Following the 2015 fire, HRH The Duke of Rothesay’s charity, The Prince’s Foundation, led an extensive restoration to return the station to its former glory. Visitors can also view a replica of the royal carriage, offering a glimpse into the past.
