About DELVE into the North Isles presents Norman Wilmore & Corrie Dick - The Lemon Tree
This concert showcases two of Shetland’s leading contemporary duos, with a special guest appearance from renowned Orkney singer songwriter Kris Drever.
Norman Wilmore and Corrie Dick
Scottish musical duo Norman&Corrie are challenging traditional notions of folk and jazz with new pieces translated from ancestral melodies. These melodies were recently discovered by them during a residency in Shetland where they spent time learning from tradition-bearers and explored the music archives of the Shetland Museum. Norman, a Shetlander, and Corrie from Glasgow, each have deep respect for their shared heritage, their music bridging the gap between tradition and innovation, infusing ancestral melodies with modern production techniques and instruments. The pair are immersed in the jazz and contemporary music scene, Corrie performing with Dinosaur , Jacob Collier and Rob Luft , and Norman working with Peatbog Faeries, Beth Orton and Corto.Alto . Together they bring to life a project that reflects their shared Scottish identity. Their unique setup, featuring a drum kit, saxophone and organ foot pedals, combined with expert sound design, results in music that’s both vibrant and firmly rooted.
Chris Stout and Catriona McKay
Chris Stout & Catriona McKay have taken these most traditional of Scottish instruments, Harp and Fiddle, and catapulted them into the contemporary world of music making.
A 30 year long telepathy sees this remarkable duo weave their way seamlessly between glorious soundscapes and music of breathtaking simplicity.
The intense and rugged coastal scenery and the dramatic seas that surround their respective origins in Fair Isle, Shetland and Dundee are ever-present in this unique and treasured duo sound.
Virtuosic and cinematic, Chris and Catriona’s music charts a rhythmic and harmonic terrain that is all their own. The result is a dynamic and intrepidly adventurous sound that transcends genre yet remains immovably tethered to place.
