Aberdeen’s Festival of Light returns for 2026

Experience Aberdeen like never before between the 5 and 8 February 2026 as the city comes alive with colour, light and creativity. Spectra Aberdeen 2026 brings immersive art installations, interactive experiences and late-night events to Aberdeen's streets, buildings and public spaces.

Spectra is a family friendly event suitable for all ages.

What is Spectra?

Spectra Aberdeen is Scotland’s Festival of Light - an immersive, artist-led event that lights up Aberdeen’s historic streets, public spaces and landmarks. Featuring large-scale light installations, projections, interactive artworks, performances and supporting activities, Spectra invites audiences of all ages to experience the city in a new and enchanting way.

The festival highlights works by local, national and international artists, blending technology, creativity and community to create an unforgettable winter experience.

Past festivals have featured multi-sensory walkways, giant illuminated sculptures, interactive installations and projection pieces celebrating history, motion and imagination.

2026 Line-up Highlights

Inspired by the theme ‘Be Curious’, the Spectra Aberdeen 2026 programme invites visitors to explore, question and discover through light, art and technology. While the full programme will be revealed in January, the first installations announced promise to transform iconic city spaces with unforgettable experiences.

Union Terrace Gardens will become home to Fire Garden by Walk the Plank - an immersive landscape of flame-filled mechanical sculptures, movement and sound.

At Marischal Square, Nocturnal by Glow Art Creations will illuminate the night with giant glowing inflatable creatures celebrating the hidden life of darkness, while Broad Street hosts Mofingu by Dutch collective WERC, an interactive digital artwork that responds to human motion to create a constantly evolving collective portrait.
