About Clay, Craft and Connect Workshop with Amy Benzie - The Barn
This full-day, process-led ceramics workshop considers clay as a living, responsive material, shaped over deep time. Using the garden as an active source of inspiration, participants will be invited to slow down, observe the change in season, and work intuitively with clay. Emphasis is placed on mindful, hands-on making in a relaxed and supportive environment.
The workshop will introduce hand building techniques such as pinching, coiling and slab-building. Participants will also be shown how to make and apply their own monoprints directly onto clay to create playful, graphic surface decoration and layered mark-making. Designed to be welcoming for complete beginners, the structure of the day also offers depth and interest for those with existing experience of clay. There will be the option to have pieces fired and glazed after the workshop.Bring a packed lunch for our short break.
Amy Benzie is a maker and creative facilitator based in Torry, Aberdeen. Her curiosity lies in the alchemy of materials, and the exchanges between art and science. Amy is currently exhibiting as part of the Pioneering Voices commission in the Gray’s 140 exhibition at Aberdeen Art Gallery, celebrating female voices in art education.
