At the heart of the Mearns, Laurencekirk is a welcoming town where literary heritage, scenic landscapes and true Aberdeenshire warmth come together.

South of Stonehaven, Laurencekirk blends literary heritage, scenic beauty and warm Aberdeenshire charm. Once known as Conveth, the town is celebrated as part of Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s classic novel Sunset Song. His legacy lives on at the nearby Grassic Gibbon Centre in Arbuthnott.

Crowning Garvock Hill, the 19th-century Johnston Tower overlooks the town and surrounding countryside, while whisky lovers can head to Fettercairn Distillery to savour one of Scotland’s finest single malts.

Just beyond Laurencekirk, enjoy the rolling landscapes of the Mearns at Auchenblae Golf Course, or stop by Balmakewan, a family run working organic farm.

A perfect base for exploring the Mearns and beyond, Laurencekirk offers a welcoming mix of history, nature and hospitality.
