About Ythan Valley Campsite
Hidden away in the charming Ythan Valley, this quirky tent campsite is surrounded by rolling farmland, picturesque country lanes, and expansive, expressive skies. Ythan Valley Campsite is a haven for tent campers and, fortunately, enjoys a midges-free environment. Set in a daisy meadow, it has been recognised as one of Scotland's hidden gems and awarded Best Holiday Accommodation in the north of Scotland.Guests are guaranteed a warm welcome, and the number of pitches is limited to maintain a tranquil, relaxing atmosphere. Advance booking is essential to secure a spot. Alongside the main meadow pitches, there are secluded Hideaway Pitches accessible via winding paths through long meadow grasses—your own slice of solitude accompanied by butterflies, birdsong, and a bubbling burn to cool your feet or chill your wine after a day exploring.Homemade bread can be ordered for breakfast, and free-range eggs come from the campsite’s happy ducks. Toilets, washing, and shower facilities are located in the Wash House, a simple, back-to-nature conversion of an old coal shed, clean and comfortable with a playful twist. For added connection with nature, there’s also a warm-water bush shower, complete with optional herbal infusions. After a day of adventure, campers can gather around the communal fire to toast marshmallows, share stories, watch the sun set, and stargaze. New for 2020, Campfire Cookouts teach guests the art of open-fire cooking, managing coals, and foraging to enhance al-fresco meals. This little gem is one of Aberdeenshire’s best-kept secrets, cherished for its peaceful, scenic setting and welcoming hosts. Visitors describe it as a perfect escape from the rush of everyday life—a campsite made by campers, offering both comfort and a genuine connection with nature.Testimonials highlight the unique experience:“Thanks for such a wonderful experience – from toasting marshmallows to watching the ducks play. We loved it.”“The peace was wonderful, and the bread delicious. Perfect escape from the everyday rush.”“Lovely, peaceful, scenic camping site with delightfully friendly owners. Superb hospitality!”“An amazing spot for star gazing and the perfect place to camp – the kind of place one dreams of finding!”“This place makes my heart sing… absolutely the best campsite we’ve ever had… campers’ heaven!”
