About Watergaw Ceramics

The old Methodist Church in Whitehills is home to Watergaw Ceramics, a unique pottery and gallery run by Fiona Duckett. At Watergaw Ceramics, a wide range of domestic and decorative pieces are produced on the premises, featuring Fiona’s distinctive take on ‘in-glaze lustre’ glazes, which are her own special recipe. Her ceramics are inspired by the reflective colours and shapes of water, with the Moray Firth Coast providing daily inspiration.Visitors can watch the pottery in action and are welcome to browse the gallery and shop area, which is part of the working pottery. In-glaze lustre is iridescent, reminiscent of oil on water or a peacock’s feather, and working with this glaze is often described as “chasing the rainbow.” The name Watergaw is an ancient Scottish term for a partial or incomplete rainbow.
