About The Rhynie Man

The Rhynie Man is a Class I Pictish Stone, incised with a standing figure of a warrior, discovered at Barflat Farm near Rhynie in 1978.The carving depicts a man wearing a knee-length, sleeved, belted tunic and pointed shoes. He carries a battle axe or poleaxe over his shoulder.Pictish stones depicting human figures are rare; this example probably dates to the 6th or 7th century AD. It is now housed at Aberdeenshire Council HQ in Aberdeen.
