Kinkell Church

About Kinkell Church

Kinkell Church, dedicated to St Michael, was built in 1538—likely on the site of an earlier church—and abandoned as a place of worship in 1771. It is believed to have been built by Alexander Galloway, Parson of Kinkell, who also constructed Aberdeen’s Bridge of Dee.The church is rectangular and built of grey rubble, with much of the north and west walls still standing. Inside, a rare sacrament house dated 1524 features Galloway’s initials and coat of arms, surrounded by other carved panels.A knight effigy monument to Gilbert de Greenlaw, later reused as a grave marker for the Forbes family in 1592, also remains inside.Note: Limited on-site parking. Not suitable for coaches or buses.
