Findlater Castle

About Findlater Castle

Coastal fortifications can still be found along the Banffshire coastline including the rugged ruins of Findlater Castle on a tiny peninsula with a 50 foot drop to the sea below. A castle was first recorded here in 1246.The name gives a clue to the undoubted Norse influence in the area being white and cliff so called because there is quartz in the rock. This castle ruin is located off narrow coastal paths and cliff edges which can be dangerous. Keep to the path, stay away from cliff edges and do not climb on any of the castle structure. Do not take any unnecessary risks.
