Harbour & heritage
Portsoy’s 17th-century harbour, with its distinctive horizontal stonework, reflects centuries of seafaring tradition. The newer harbour, built in 1825, expanded the village’s maritime trade, once bustling with herring boats and now known for its fine seafood and craftsmanship.
Culture & festivals
Each summer, the village bursts into life for the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival, celebrating boat building, restoration and sailing, alongside live music, arts, crafts and local food.
On screen & in story
Film lovers may recognise Portsoy from Whisky Galore!, filmed locally and inspired by the real-life tale of a shipwrecked cargo of whisky, adding another layer to this village’s enduring character.
