About Lunchbreak Concert: The Confucius Institute of the University of Aberdeen - Aberdeen Art Gallery

12:00-12:20 – pre-concert talk

Celebrate the Spring Festival and welcome the Year of the Goat with this special lunchtime concert filled with the rich and enchanting sounds of traditional Chinese instruments.

Presented by the Confucius Institute of the University of Aberdeen, this varied programme showcases traditional instruments such as the guzheng, erhu and pipa, alongside Chinese music performed on Western instruments including piano and fiddle.

Performed by professional musicians, community performers, University of Aberdeen students and guest artists, this vibrant programme offers a unique blend of musical styles and influences.

We are delighted to welcome back University of Aberdeen Music Department students Lavin Marin on vocals and Rory Anderson on piano. We are also excited to welcome a special guest pipa performer. The pipa, a traditional Chinese lute, is one of the most celebrated instruments in Chinese music and is renowned for its expressive and versatile sound.

Learn more about the traditional Chinese instruments at the pre-concert talk.
