About Lunchtime Talk: The Legacy of Aberdeen’s Shipbuilding Past - Aberdeen Maritime Museum
Talk by Ross MacLennan, Curator at Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums.
Aberdeen’s proud history of shipbuilding spanned over 200 years, much of which is still in living memory with the last shipyard closing in 1992.
The Aberdeen Built Ships database is a significant record of over 3,000 ships built in the city. It was created over a number of years by a dedicated team of volunteer experts using a wide range of sources.
The project which has spanned two decades continues and curator Ross MacLennan discusses its importance and plans for its future, with interesting and exciting snippets of the history of the ships built along the way!
