About Doric Messiah - Longside Parish Church Hall
In 2018 our current President Gordon M Hay MBE was requested by Aberdeen Universitys Elphinstone Institute to translate Handels Messiah into Doric. Excerpts were performed in St Machars Cathedral Aberdeen and St Margarets Braemar under the direction of Prof Paul Mealor. There has never been a performance of the whole work.
As part of Ugie Voices (formerly Peterhead Choral Society) 160th anniversary celebrations in 2027 we are to perform the whole work in Doric with orchestra and professional soloists. You are invited to join us for that performance.
Please register by completing the registration form on line.
You can join us for regular practices on Tuesday evenings at 7.30 in Longside Parish Church from January 2027. Alternatively depending on the level of expertise of those joining us additional rehearsals may be held, details of which will depend on the uptake. If you are familiar with the music you might only need to attend 2/3 final rehearsals to familiarise yourself with the Doric words.
The registration fee of 15 will include hire of the score which should be returned at the end of the performance. There may be an opportunity in addition to purchase the score.
Whether you are familiar with Messiah, a beginner, a Doric speaker or not, do come and join us for a world premiere of this magnificent work in oor ain tongue.
