Scottish Opera - Gala Performance (HMT 120) - His Majesty's Theatre

You are warmly invited to an exceptional evening celebrating a landmark moment in the life of His Majesty’s Theatre. This one off Opera Gala, presented in partnership with Scottish Opera, brings together celebrated voices and a programme of much loved classics for a night of music worthy of the occasion.

This is not your typical opera production. Set within the grandeur of His Majesty’s Theatre, the Gala offers a rare opportunity to experience iconic opera pieces in a classic concert setting, performed by artists of the highest calibre. It is an evening designed to honour the theatre’s legacy, recognise its place at the heart of Aberdeen, and celebrate the cultural generosity that has sustained it for 120 years.

Conductor Harry Sever leads The Orchestra of Scottish Opera and a stellar line-up of soloists including soprano Paula Sides, tenors Sang-Eup Son and Jamie MacDougall, and former Scottish Opera Emerging Artists Chloe Harris and Ross Cumming.

The first half travels through opera’s greatest hits, from the drama of Bizet’s Carmen and Verdi’s Rigoletto to Puccini’s Turandot, Gianni Schicchi, and the rarely-heard Edgar. The second half turns to the golden age of operetta and musical theatre, with highlights from The Merry Widow, South Pacific, Carousel, Kiss Me Kate, and Oklahoma!
