About Ballater Walking Festival - Cambus O'may And The Summits Of Culblean Hill - Strong/Moderate Walk - Bridge Street
CAMBUS O'MAY and THE SUMMITS OF CULBLEAN HILL
Strong/Moderate Walk
Depart from Green Hut Ballater at 8:30am by bus. Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
Approximate Distance 21km
Approximate Ascent 760m
Approximate Walking Time 7-8 hours
Landranger Map no. - 37
DESCRIPTION
A varied walk through a mixture of woods and moorland, mainly on tracks and paths, with great views. From the historic Cambus OMay quarries, a series of short, steep scrambles leads up through the trees, heather and blaeberries before the exposed main summit. After descending to two further summits, an old track leads down beyond Redburn. Venturing deep into woodland, forestry tracks and paths then lead to Culsten Loch, before a final short steep climb and our return to Ballater on the Cinder Path.
TERRAIN
Although mainly on tracks and paths, there are some short but steep scrambly sections - and at times the path through the heather is indistinct. Poles are recommended.
