About Ballater Walking Festival - Craig Leek Circuit And Summit - Moderate Walk - Bridge Street
CRAIG LEEK CIRCUIT and SUMMIT
Moderate Walk
Depart from Green Hut at 9:30am by bus. Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
Approximate Distance : 16km
Approximate Ascent : 560 m
Approximate Walking Time : 5 hours
Landranger Map no. 36 & 43
DESCRIPTION
This circular walk on Invercauld estate offers wonderful views of Lochnagar, the Dee valley and surrounding Cairngorm hills. The first section involves a steady moderate climb round the back of Craig Leek, before a short steeper spur leads us to the summit, where we can admire the surrounding vistas. Once back on the main track, the return route is a more gradual descent through coniferous plantations and a short section on tarmac past Invercauld House, before meandering up through beautiful woodland to the Fog House. Finally, it wends its way down a luxurious grassy carriageway to the forest track, which will return us to our start point.
TERRAIN
Mostly on good tracks, but narrower and rougher on the summit path. A couple of small shallow burn crossings possible. Poles recommended.
