About Ballater Walking Festival - Linn Of Dee To Glen Tilt - Strong Walk - Bridge Street
LINN OF DEE to GLEN TILT
Strong Walk
Depart from Green Hut Ballater at 7am by bus. Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
Approximate Distance. 35 km
Approximate Ascent. 615 m
Approximate Walking Time 11 hours
Landranger Map no 43
DESCRIPTION
Not for the faint-hearted, this is a LONG walk for experienced endurance hill walkers only.
This walk begins at Linn of Dee and heads west on good tracks to the White Bridge, then south-west across the Geldie (you may have to wade!) with the ruins of Bynack lodge in the distance. A rougher track takes us south to the boundary of Aberdeenshire and Perthshire before descending gently to the Belford Memorial Bridge, where we now pick up a good track, first to Forest Lodge, then Marble Lodge. We keep to the left bank of the River Tilt at Gilbert's Bridge before crossing the next bridge and follow the right bank down to the Old Bridge of Tilt, and finally to Blair Atholl.
Lead by Mar Estate Ranger.
TERRAIN
Rugged terrain. Established Land Rover tracks at the beginning and end, with a single rugged track between the two estates.
Walking poles recommended as the middle section may be wet underfoot with burns to cross.
