About The Smiddy

The Smiddy is a contemporary craft space in Banff, North-East Scotland, rooted in the region’s long silversmithing heritage and reimagined for today.

Housed in a former working smiddy, the space brings together jewellery and silversmithing, education, artist residencies, a public gallery, and community programmes under one roof. Visitors can explore exhibitions, discover handmade silver and jewellery, take part in creative workshops, or simply spend time in a calm, welcoming environment dedicated to skilled making.

The Smiddy works with people at all stages, from complete beginners to established craft practitioners, offering short experience sessions, longer courses, studio access, and residencies. Everything is shaped by care for materials, process, and people, with an emphasis on quality, accessibility, and long-term craft skills.

Open to locals and visitors alike, The Smiddy offers a chance to engage directly with contemporary Scottish craft while connecting to Banff’s historic role in metalworking and silver.
