The Maiden Stone

The Maiden Stone is a Class II upright red granite cross-slab.

South side: Covered with intricate interlacing patterns. North side: Features a knotwork design arranged in a double row. East face: The topmost of four panels displays four beasts. Below this are a notched rectangle with a Z-rod, a beast, and a mirror & comb motif. West face: At the top, a man stands with arms outstretched between two fish-like monsters. Beneath him is a large ring-headed cross, and at the bottom, a roundel contains four triple spirals surrounding three double spirals.

Visitor note: During winter months, the stone is covered by a protective shelter and is not viewable.
