About Scolty Forest - Forestry Commission Scotland
Scolty – Something for Everyone!Whether you prefer a gentle stroll through the woods or a more energetic hike to the top of Scolty Hill, this area has plenty to offer. Keep an eye out for red squirrels, hunt for tadpoles in the burns, and listen for cuckoos in spring or the drumming of woodpeckers. You might even spot a flash of colour from a jay.The white trail takes you to the edge of the forest, where you can choose your route onto Scolty Hill. At the summit, the monument to General Burnett, who fought alongside the Duke of Wellington, features a spiral staircase leading to the top of the tower with breathtaking views up and down Deeside.Scolty is less than a five-minute drive across the River Dee from Banchory, and energetic walkers can easily reach it on foot.Directions:
Scolty lies south of Banchory, just over the River Dee. From the traffic lights in Banchory, drive 1.75 km along the B976 south, cross the River Dee, then take the first public road to the right, followed by the next public road to the left. Near the top of the hill, turn right along a track past the Scolty signboard, then take the next track to the right past another signboard. The car park is on your left approximately 30 metres along this track.
