About Pitmedden Garden
Nestled in the rich Aberdeenshire countryside, this 17th-century walled garden holds a secret waiting to be discovered. Tucked away behind Pitmedden House lies an immaculately kept garden that truly delivers the wow factor. From the moment you gaze upon the breathtaking box hedge parterres—filled with colourful seasonal plants and flanked by extensive herbaceous borders—you’ll be captivated. Espalier-trained apple and pear trees add to the charm, offering beautiful blossom in spring and bountiful fruit in autumn. In 2021, a new modern parterre garden, designed by renowned gardener Chris Beardshaw, was unveiled, adding a fresh dimension to the formal landscape. The site also features two well-stocked herb and potager gardens framed by pleached lime trees, and a majestic hornbeam avenue leading to the Museum of Farming Life, where you can immerse yourself in a bygone era of rural Doric life.Whether you're a fan of formal gardens, heritage, or simply looking for a great day out, Pitmedden Garden never fails to impress. The Tearoom at Pitmedden GardenThe award-winning tearoom, complete with a sunny patio, is the perfect spot to relax. Enjoy an imaginative range of soups and sandwiches with freshly made fillings, alongside a tempting selection of homemade cakes and traybakes. Many of the ingredients come directly from the garden—rhubarb, apples, pears, salad leaves, and more—making the tearoom a true garden-to-table experience.Specialties include traditional Afternoon Tea and Pitmedden’s own apple juice, made from apples grown on-site. With Fair Trade teas and coffees to suit all tastes, it’s an ideal place for a catch-up with friends or a special treat. Takeaway and group bookings are also available.Stay at PitmeddenSituated on the edge of the woodland estate and facing south, Beechgrove Holiday Cottage is a charming single-storey property popular with families and couples.
