The lower ground floor is home to a large rod room with a fishing history, which can also serve as a lunch room, complete with a small kitchen and cloakroom area—ideal for relaxing with a quick bite before heading out to explore more of Aberdeenshire.

Royal Deeside is a beautiful area, offering picturesque landscapes and attractions like Balmoral Castle. Mill Cottage is a great base for hiking and cycling, with local bike hire available at the door. The River Dee area is teeming with wildlife, including deer, birds, and squirrels, while Aboyne itself is a charming town with a lovely golf course. For whisky lovers, the Malt Whisky Trail offers guided tours of distilleries, where you can learn about and sample fine malts.
