Longside Old Parish Church

About Longside Old Parish Church

Longside Old Parish Church, built between 1619 and 1620 and modified in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, has stood roofless since the 19th century. The church features a simple rectangular design crowned by a distinctive birdcage bellcote on the west gable, crafted from sandstone and adorned with the coats of arms of the Sibbald and Bruce families. Additional carved skewputts commemorate the Keith and Cheyne families.Visible blocked windows and doorways reveal the many changes the church has undergone over the centuries. The south wall showcases an early 18th-century memorial decorated with several memento mori carvings. Nearby, a rare lychgate dated 1705—possibly even older—marks the west entrance.Street parking is available for visitors.
