About JJR Macleod Memorial Statue

The world’s only monument honouring Professor John J.R. Macleod stands in Aberdeen’s beautiful Duthie Park. Unveiled in October 2023, it commemorates the centenary of Macleod’s Nobel Prize for the co-discovery of insulin.The memorial features a life-sized bronze figure of Macleod seated on a bronze bench, set on a foundation of reclaimed Aberdeen granite. It is also Scotland’s first “Storytelling Statue,” offering a recorded monologue and short film accessible via a QR code displayed at the site.Macleod’s Corner is a featured stop on the city’s Insulin Trail walking map , celebrating Aberdeen’s role in one of medicine’s most important breakthroughs.
