The charity was founded on 10th of March 1870 by Alexander Nicol – Aberdeen Lord Provost after he called a public meeting to form the association with regards to the condition of the poor. The charity’s connection with the Royal Household dates to 1870 when Queen Victoria granted patronage; and every reigning monarch since has been patron of VSA.

We hope you enjoy learning our history as much as we do, and don’t forget to take pictures and tag us across our social media pages or send them to marketing@vsa.org.uk.

Explore the history of VSA and the city of Aberdeen by taking a walking tour through some of the charity’s milestone moments.
