The River Dee opens on the 1 of February 2025, followed by the River Don and River Deveron on the 11 of February 2025. These rivers are steeped in angling heritage and provide incredible opportunities for both seasoned and beginner anglers.
The pristine waters of the River Dee gave birth to modern fly fishing for salmon whilst the River Don is one of the best wild Brown Trout rivers in Europe. Aberdeenshire's River Ythan produces specimen sea trout and the River Deveron holds the record for the largest salmon caught on fly in the UK.
When planning your next fishing trip there's a few things you should keep in mind. The River Dee operates a catch and release policy to ensure that fish are returned to the water, giving them the chance to spawn and support future stock levels. It's also worth noting that under Scottish Law, there is no fishing allowed on Sundays in the River Dee.
