Crathes Castle, Gardens & Estate
Standing against a backdrop of rolling hills and set within its own glorious gardens, Crathes Castle is every inch the classic Scottish tower house - and a fantastic day out for all the family.
Inside you'll find a labyrinth of cultural history, from family portraits and fine antique furniture to painted ceilings. The walled garden is split into eight sections that encompass every green delight imaginable - a sculpted topiary, soft herbaceous colours and modern exotic blooms.
Nature spotters will love the waymarked trails along the Coy Burn - keep an eye out here for buzzards, herons and kingfishers.
The Wild Wood adventure play area, a fantastic playpark inspired by the stories and setting of Crathes Castle is open for families and children to enjoy, complete with slides, sandpits and a zip wire with see-through walkway.
Once you have explored the castle grounds why not drop in to the Courtyard café for a light lunch and some of their homemade cakes and treats!
Laced with gothic charm this Victorian gate lodge guards the entrance to Crathes Castle. Crathes is a Renaissance dream of winding turrets and pink-harled walls, set among acres of manicured gardens.
The lodge's arched latticed windows look out onto the castle driveway. An enclosed private garden with a picnic table is perfect for outdoor dining when the sun shines.
