Pitmedden Garden
Nestling in the rich Aberdeenshire rural landscape, this 17th century walled garden hides a secret which must be discovered.
Tucked away behind Pitmedden House is an immaculately kept garden. Be prepared for the wow factor when you look down onto a breath-taking display of box hedge parterres in-filled with colourful plants and flanked by extensive herbaceous borders and espalier trained apple and pear trees, laden with blossom or fruit, depending on which season you visit. In 2021 we unveil our new 'modern' parterre garden, designed by celebrity gardener, Chris Beardshaw. We also boast two well-stocked herb and potager gardens framed by pleached lime trees and a hornbeam avenue which leads to the fascinating Museum of Farming Life where you can immerse yourself in a previous generation of Doric life. If you are a fan of formal gardens, heritage and great days out, Pitmedden never fails to impress.
An award winning Tearoom offers that essential cuppa and an imaginative range of home-made cakes. We also host regular summer events and an annual art exhibition of local artist's works.
The elegant tearoom with complementary patio offers a range of exciting soups and sandwiches with imaginative fillings, all freshly made to order. A specialty at Pitmedden is the range of treats created in the kitchen using produce from the garden: rhubarb, apples, pears and salad leaves to name but a few. From garden to table is a privilege not every eatery can boast. Blessed with an experienced in-house baker, the Pitmedden Garden Tearoom offers freshly made cakes and tray-bakes you will find hard to resist. There is a Fair Trade tea and coffee to suit everyone’s taste or why not try a bottle of Pitmedden’s own Apple Juice made from apples grown in the garden? For a special occasion or an afternoon catch-up with a friend, the traditional Afternoon Tea never disappoints. Take away and group bookings available.
Situated on the edge of the Pitmedden Garden Woodland Estate and facing south, Beechgrove Holiday Cottage is a charming single storey property, popular with families and couples. The cosy cottage sleeps 4 and offers a double room and twin room with modern bathroom with bath and shower, and well equipped compact kitchen. The cottage has electric storage heaters and the living room boasts an open fire especially for those cosy autumn/winter evenings in. Look out for the red squirrels who are frequent visitors to the bird feeders looking for nuts and also the amazing variety of birds including the greater spotted woodpeckers who live in the woods. In the spring and summer take advantage of the enclosed garden and picnic table for alfresco eating. New in 2021, we offer guests the chance to stay in the North Wing, part of Pitmedden House. With exclusive, direct access to the beautiful walled garden, this holiday property is the perfect blend of heritage and modern comfort.
