Mayen Estate offers guests authentic holiday experiences in unique self-catered properties on a stunning Scottish estate in the Deveron Valley.

 

Embrace the natural world at Mayen Estate, with over 700 acres of hills and woodlands to explore, as well as our private walled garden, historic rock gardens, butterfly meadows and of course the River Deveron, we have our very own onsite Shoppe stocking locally sourced produce, essential items and your favourite goodies, including Pizza Making Kits and S'mores Kits. We also offer pre-booked experiences for our guests, including Trout & Salmon Fishing on the River Deveron, Clay Pigeon Shooting and other seasonal classes and activities.

 

Our historic self-catering cottages have a low environmental impact and plenty of privacy, each well equipped with a fully furnished kitchen and living space, wood burning stove, hot tub, Ooni Pizza Oven and Kamado Barbeques.

 

Mayen is situated a short drive from the Banffshire Coast, where you’ll find historic fishing villages with the opportunity for dolphin watching, dining in quaint cafes and quality restaurants and browsing galleries, as well as visiting castles, whisky distilleries and of course, the seaside.

The Guardhouse

This Historic Guardhouse at Mayen Estate offers the discerning guest the opportunity to relax and embrace slow living. Steeped in history, The Guardhouse is a detached wing of the Georgian Mansion House, Mayen House. The unique, listed building has been completely reimagined and transformed into an exclusive romantic getaway.

Return from a long walk in the Deveron Valley to the warmth of The Guardhouse. The relaxed, open-plan living area features a wood-burning stove that fills the property with warmth. Relax in the most comfortable surroundings with soft seating, a TV and an upright piano. Pick up ingredients from the local farm shop, and cook up a storm in The Guardhouse. The kitchenette is well-equipped with a double oven and hob, fridge-freezer, kettle and toaster for cooking your favourite meals as well as a dining table.
The galleried bedroom is furnished with beautiful antiques and has an especially comfortable double bed decked in luxury linen. There is also a small balcony overlooking the living area.
The bathroom boasts an antique free-standing bath with portholes, as well as a separate shower. The private, secret garden adjacent to the estate’s walled garden is the perfect place to relax in the evening, with its own Koi Carp aquarium and of course a BBQ and dining furniture.

The Pheasantry

A fairytale, chocolate-box cottage, rich in history and packed with character. The Pheasantry is at the heart of Mayen Estate, overlooking the walled garden, with butterfly meadows and of course, the River Deveron a stone’s throw away. With the children free to explore the gardens, free-range hens providing the eggs for breakfast and a view of a Koi Carp Aquarium from the bedroom window, The Pheasantry provides an idyllic highland retreat for all the family.
Originally built as a Laundry for the Georgian mansion, Mayen House and steeped in history, this historic granite building has been finished throughout in furnishings with all of the charm you could imagine from a rural Scottish cottage, providing a calm and relaxing atmosphere for up to four guests.

This quaint cottage has two bedrooms, one king-size and one twin, with especially comfortable beds decked in luxury linen. The family bathroom has a freestanding antique roll-top bath as well as a separate shower and underfloor heating.

The quaint, open-plan kitchen-living area features a wood-burning stove that fills the cottage with warmth. Relax and slow down together, reading a book or playing a game in the cosy living room. Bake a cake or whip up a three-course meal in the fully equipped kitchen, which has a double oven and hob, fridge-freezer, and everything you’ll need for cooking your favourite meals.
Wake up to a view of the walled garden from the master bedroom and enjoy a soak in the antique free-standing bath, or there’s also a shower if you prefer.
With the opportunity to enjoy dining outside, by the BBQ in the beautifully maintained, secluded, private garden this cosy cottage offers a traditional family holiday experience.

Butlers Cottage

Suited to a family holiday or an escape with friends, Butlers Cottage is an authentic and charming traditional highland estate cottage, overlooking the Deveron Valley.
With a wood-fired hot tub overlooking the Deveron Valley, Butlers Cottage has a calm atmosphere to embrace slow living. This two-bedroom cottage has been designed by our Designer in Residence to feature traditional artist-painted “box beds” and is traditionally heated by two woodburning stoves, one in the living room and one in the master bedroom. With a wood-fired hot tub in it’s own enclosed garden, overlooking the scenic Deveron Valley, Butlers Cottage has a calm atmosphere to embrace Rural Scotland. The quaint, open-plan kitchen-living area is the perfect spot to read a book or play games together by the fire. Cook everyone’s favourites in the fully-equipped kitchen, with its electric range cooker and everything you’ll need for your culinary pursuits.
Wake up to the sound of birdsong and take a walk through the estate’s arboretum and historic rock gardens to the river. Enjoy dining outside by the BBQ, with squirrels and birds visiting the garden.

Bailies Cottage

Perfect for a family retreat, or for a fishing holiday with friends, Bailies Cottage is open plan, spacious and warm, with a garden designed to enjoy the sun. This traditional estate-worker’s cottage is adjacent to the estate’s historic coachhouses built in 1790. Bailies Cottage is a short walk from the Mayen House Beat of the River Deveron. The traditional property is well furnished with everything you need to feel at home, providing a relaxed environment for up to six guests and your four-legged friends. Wake up in Bailies Cottage and wander down to the river through the historic rock gardens to cast your line or play a game of rounders together in the arboretum. The three-bedroom and two-bathroom traditional cottage has its own well-maintained garden with a wood-burning eco spa, BBQ, dining furniture and firepit. The spacious, open-plan kitchen-living area features a cosy wood-burning stove and very comfortable sofas. Drink your morning coffee in the porch, listening to the birdsong through the open half-door. You’ll find that the fully equipped kitchen with its electric range cooker has everything you’ll need to make everyone’s favourites.

MidPark

Designed for a couple’s retreat, MidPark is open plan and laid-back, with its glass apex bringing you closer to nature. The cabin is heated by a Scandinavian wood-burning stove and features British and Scottish designer furniture and a king size bed.
The park has a wood-burning eco spa and outdoor cooking and dining. Slow down together, drinking coffee on the veranda, or relaxing in the hot tub, drinking in the view across the valley. Cook in the fully equipped kitchen or have a BBQ or Pizza Night. MidPark is dog friendly, laid back and the perfect spot to escape from it all.
