Somers Fishing tackle
Somers Fishing was opened in 1951 by Jim Somes on Thistle Street in Aberdeen. Somes was the manufacturer of the famous Grant Vibration Green Heart Rod, which is still in use today and many anglers claim its one of the best roads ever created. This rod cemented Somers Fishing as a quality manufacturer of products for the angling industry in the UK. Unfortunately as Jims health declined he made the decision to sell the shop to the current owner, David Craik. When David took over, he decided to try and secure contracts with all the major international tackle suppliers. Having secured deals with Daiwa Sports, Abu Garcia, Shakespeare, Leeda and House of Hardy, the customer base began to grow and Davids commitment to customer service saw the loyalty of these customers strengthen. In 1995 David moved the business to larger premises in Bon-Accord Terrace, just off Aberdeens main thoroughfare, and arranged for Paul Young of Hooked On Scotland to conduct the grand opening. Since that time the business has gone from strength to strength and is revered as one of the premier suppliers of fishing tackle and associated equipment within the UK.
