The Rothesay Rooms was established as a pop-up eating destination by HRH The Prince of Wales to drive tourism and employment to the area following flooding and fire in the village in 2015. It has a burgeoning reputation, rubber-stamped by several North-East Restaurant of the Year awards and inclusion in the Michelin Guide for the past four years.

Award-winning Head Chef Ross Cochrane focuses on Scottish dishes, executed immaculately, embracing a field to fork cooking philosophy. The menu changes with the seasons and showcases the finest local food available at the time.

The Rothesay Rooms recently moved to the Old Royal Station in Ballater, which was originally built in 1866 to allow Queen Victoria and the royal family to travel by train to nearby Balmoral Castle and it has enjoyed a rich and varied history through the years. In response to the fire in 2015, HRH The Duke of Rothesay’s charity, The Prince’s Foundation, initiated an extensive restoration plan to reinstate the station to its former glory with the timeline and the replica of the royal carriage providing a glimpse into the past.
