Howff (Noun, Scottish English)

“a favourite meeting place or haunt, especially a pub.”

The Howff is one of the City’s last remaining traditional pubs on Union Street. The Howff first opened for business in the mid 80's under the name The Wine Cellar. Following changes over the years, it was renamed in the 90's and The Howff was born.

Independently owned and operated, it is a cosy basement bar that proudly works in collaboration with other local, independent breweries and distilleries. Parts of Scotland’s heritage boasts throughout the comfortable alcoves creating an intimate ambience for a drink or two.

A few minutes’ walk from one of Scotland’s oldest and most historic concert halls, the Music Hall, it benefits from a prime location right on Union Street. The Howff serves traditional, hearty pub grub from 12pm until 9pm so it’s the perfect spot to sample Scottish fare such as haggis, mince and tatties or a haddock supper.

Walk down the famous carpeted stairwell to find this exclusive gem, tucked underneath Union Street to sample why this historic pub has been a favourite meeting place for so many years.
