Come along for this conversation with Liz Lochhead, Scotland’s former Makar (national poet), exploring her new publication, A Handsel: New and Collected Poems, and reflect upon its relationship to Lochhead’s remarkable experiences as one of Scotland’s most distinguished writers. There will be readings and a Q&A.

Liz Lochhead is one of Scotland’s foremost literary figures: a prolific poet and playwright of such well-known works as Blood and Ice , The Colour of Black and White , Dreaming Frankenstein and Collected Poems , Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off , Memo for Spring , which, not too long ago, had its 50th anniversary, as well as her most recent publication, A Handsel: New and Collected Poems , published in 2023. Many will remember her work as the Makar (the national poet of Scotland), and many, perhaps, will remember her writing from their time in school or university, where her poems have now long been established pillars of Scottish literature education.
