Lutosławski Little Suite (c.11 mins) Mozart Violin Concerto No.5 ‘Turkish’ (c.30 mins) Interval Tchaikovsky Symphony No.6 ‘Pathétique’ (c.42 mins) Esther Yoo violin Delyana Lazarova conductor
With its sweeping melodies and raw emotion, Tchaikovsky’s famous Pathétique is a powerful exploration of love, loss and fate. It’s music that speaks from the heart, and under Principal Guest Conductor Delyana Lazarova’s baton, every note tells a story. In communist Poland, Witold Lutosławski takes a handful of folksongs and crafts them into a mini-masterpiece of wild rhythms and subversive beauty. And violinist Esther Yoo—described by The Strad as “the model of a violin soloist in the modern age”—performs teenage Mozart’s irresistibly quirky “Turkish” concerto.
