Nature & Wildlife

Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire creates the perfect spot for catching a glimpse of wildlife in its natural habitat. You just never know what you might find, making each visit truly authentic.

The dramatic cliffs at the Bullers of Buchan are where many have been lucky enough to get that little bit closer to Aberdeenshire’s puffins, amongst many other species of seabird found along the coast.

Porpoises, minke whales and dolphins have also been known to roam the waters nearby the cliffs at Troup Head. And in spring, the area is vibrant with thousands of butterflies and moths amongst the grassland and wild floras.

Feel at one with nature at Newburgh Beach where you’ll see hundreds of sunbathing seals that dominate the sands. Or look towards the mouth of the Port of Aberdeen to see urban dolphins leaping high out the choppy water.

A great way to get up, close and personal with the wildlife along coast is by taking a guided boat trip – perfect for spotting dolphins, minke whales, guillemots and puffins!

Away from the coast, and heading over to the Cairngorms National Park, prepare to be amazed by countryside views and watch red deer as they gather for water at Loch Muick. You might even catch a glimpse of the protected capercaillie in their natural habitat. When exploring the winding paths of Cambus O’ May forest, make sure to pay attention to the skyline, you might spot the rare golden eagle too.
