Strathdon
Strathdon lies west of Aberdeen, on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park. Getting its name for its position on the River Don, the village is well known for its deep roots and strong sense of community.
Arguably one of the most famous Highland Games in Scotland, and attended by celebrities, the Lonach Highland Gathering & Games take place in this charming community every year. The tradition starts with the Clansmen of the Lonach Highlanders parading through the village.
The Games then showcase the best of Scottish sports and culture including highland dancing, the caber toss and tug-o-war, and many other long standing traditional sports.
Majestic scenery and wildlife can be adored in Strathdon throughout the year. In winter, the nearby mountainous ski resort, Lecht 2090, is visited by skiers and snowboarders whilst in summer the slopes are used by avid mountain bikers.
If you have a love for horses, the Candysclan Dilly Dally around the Cairngorms experiences are a fantastic way to discover the mountains.
