Oldmeldrum
Referred to as the ‘Granary of Aberdeen’ for its production of high quality barley, Old Meldrum is a well-liked stop just off the beaten track.
It’s home to one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries. Founded in 1797, the popular Glen Garioch (pronounced Geerie) Distillery is the closest distillery to the city - only a 30 minute drive from the centre. With a range of tours, the option to bottle your own whisky and the chance to take part in informed dram tastings, the distillery is a great place to sample our ‘water of life’.
Take a short trip up the road and you will find the country retreat of Meldrum House Country Hotel & Golf Course. The luxurious hotel is set back within its own tranquil estate and is also a popular choice for diners – it even has its own ‘Cave Bar’ serving up over 120 whiskies. The hotel also has its own 18 hole golf course with rolling green fairways across the estate.
Lochter Activity Centre just outside Oldmeldrum has a wide range of activities. From archery, to water zorbing, to 4x4 blindfold driving. The on-site Lochter Fishery is host to three lochs – Muckle, Trout, Osprey and Heron, and together there is approximately 20 acres of fishing.
Getting There
