Top 5 things to do in ABDN this winter
27 September 2017
In winter this silver city looks and feels quite different – the classic granite buildings sparkle thanks to the low sun and further inland the mountains passes are topped with snow throughout the winter months. If you’re visiting Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire this winter season make sure you do my five top things:
1.Take a dive deep into the outdoors
Take a deep, brisk, dive into Royal Deeside where Aberdeenshire meets the Cairngorms National Park. You can roam for miles climbing Munro’s or take on the slopes at purpose built ski resorts. The Lecht 2090 is found at 2090 feet above sea level and has 12 lifts across its resort; whilst Glenshee has the UK’s largest lift system with 36 runs across three valleys and four mountains!
2. Experience our winter festivities
From the Aberdeen fireworks display at the city beach and Christmas tree switch on, to the Christmas Village and reindeer parade, visiting Aberdeen in winter is a great excuse to get that warm festive spirit going. Keep an eye on our what’s on page for event and festival updates!
3. Find your snow-topped fairy-tale castle
Our castles are striking all year round but you really can’t beat those glistening frosty grounds and snow topped roofs for that extra wow-factor! Whether you visit a famous castle, a castle ruin or head off the tourist track to one of our lesser-known castles, you’ll be spoilt for choice!
4. Celebrate Hogmanay in true Aberdonian style
If you want to experience our traditions this New Year, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire know how to throw a party! With street parties, the famous Stonehaven Fireballs tradition and plenty more you can ring in the bells in true Aberdonian fashion!
5. Enjoy a fine meal and a comforting dram
And after a long day of doing all of the above, enjoy a wee dram by a roaring fire in a traditional bothy or bar. Fresh from the surf food at one of our cosy seaside cafes or restaurants. Or delicious local produce and comforting evening meals at one of our 84 Taste Our Best restaurants!
