Contemporary dining at its best - 1906
3 April 2017
It’s not every day that you get to watch the busy city go by from the comfort and tranquillity of a fine dining establishment…
But that’s exactly what I did this Friday lunchtime from the graces of one of my favourite historic buildings in Aberdeen. In the splendour of His Majesty’s Theatre can be found the stylish 1906 restaurant and whether you’re going before a theatre show or just grabbing a fine bite to eat, the restaurant is a great choice.
Walled with large panes of glass it’s the perfect viewing platform to see the famous granite city in all its glory. It looks straight over the Victorian Union Terrace Gardens, as far out to Union Street and gives you a perfect view of the city’s gothic skyline.
Choosing from the menu was hard – with so many great options I decided to try something a little different! I went for ‘roast mushroom & halloumi burger’ but I do have to say that I was just a tad envious of my colleague, Julia’s vegetarian platter!
The food was fresh, delicious and all delivered with fantastic customer service from our helpful waitress! However, we really should have said no to desert… but when we saw the desert menu our eyes were quite definitely bigger than our stomachs. Choosing a desert was even harder! But I have no regrets with this choice; the ‘dark chocolate fondant, sticky orange compote with vanilla ice cream’.
I’ll absolutely be heading back to 1906 soon to try out the rest of the lunch menu though; that ‘slow braised venison’ and ‘pistachio crème brulee’ sound too good to miss!
Located in His Majesty’s Theatre, visiting 1906 is also the perfect excuse to catch a show after you dine. Productions coming up this year include: Scottish National Orchestra, Wonderland, Gangsta Granny, Mamma Mia, Grease and Aladdin the panto!
