A few weeks ago we crossed the country, heading East to Aberdeenshire with VisitAberdeenshire. It’s a part of Scotland I’ve rarely visited so I didn’t really know what to expect which made the trip all the more exciting. Over the four day trip we discovered a region steeped in history, edged with a spectacular coastline and with some of the cutest villages you’ll find anywhere.

I admit I had a rather narrow view of what Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire has to offer before my first visit. All I knew about the place was it had connections to the oil industry, most of its city centre buildings were made of granite (the Granite City), and I had heard whisperings of something they ate called a buttery (turns out it's a delicious savoury). This trip opened my eyes to what the county has to offer, by introducing me to its royal connections. So, without further ado, here's a royal-inspired weekend in Aberdeenshire.
