Dreaming of Summer

As the days get longer and the sun shines brighter it’s evident that summer is nearly upon us. As I dream of summer excitement, I thought I would share with you my seasonal highlight, The Scottish Traditional Boat Festival.

The annual festival will take place on 25th and 26th June this year in the gorgeous Aberdeenshire town of Portsoy. Diverse in nature, the festival appeals to all ages and interests, so it easily makes for a fun family day out.

There’s a hint in the name… the two day festival celebrates the area's rich maritime & cultural heritage. Held in the picturesque setting of the 17th Century Portsoy Harbour, the town welcomes historic boats and traditional craft sailing – all with one goal – to win the esteemed boat race. The boats are docked in the harbour so can be enjoyed by all before they race.

The Scottish Traditional Boat Festival also embraces our rich heritage with an array of Scottish traditional dancing, craft, music and song. And for those foodies (like me), there are plenty of the best local producers on hand to keep you refreshed and full!

Not only is Portsoy renowned for its Boat Festival, it’s also one of the most beautiful towns in the area. With two harbours, famed ice-cream and scenic village cottages, it’s worth a visit whether or not you make it to the festival.
