Routes and Trails
If you’ve got a particular interest you’d like to explore further when you visit Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, want to see as much of the region as possible in a short space of time, or just love a good old road trip, we recommend you follow one of our many touring routes and trails.
The newest kid of the block and ‘ultimate road trip’, is making its mark following in the footsteps of other major Scottish touring routes. The North East 250 will take you on a journey of local discovery through our famous Granite City, into the depths of the Cairngorms National Park and along some of our 165 miles of coastline.
Speaking of coast… do you know we have our own Coastal Trail? Take a trip along a pre-planned route making sure you see and experience as much of this extensive rugged coastline as possible. You’ll visit film-famous castles, historic fishing villages, explore wide sandy expanses and great dunes as well as go on dolphin cruises and other must-do activities.
And for those history buffs we’ve got you covered with our Castle Trail. Known as Scotland’s Castle Country, Aberdeenshire is home to some of the UK’s most famous castles. Discover 19 of the region’s dramatic castles on this trail, including Balmoral Castle – summer residence of the Royal Family and Dunnottar Castle – perched on a crumbling clifftop.
